The Grad Cert NLP program is taught in a blended learning format and consists of live training, readings, online videos and webinars.
The complete course comprises a total of eight units over thirty two non-consecutive training days of training. Units are taught either as individual units or in clusters of two units per training period.
In addition to attending the live training days students are required to complete the set readings and written work. There is also a weekly live webinar that students from any of the Grad Cert NLP programs can attend and online videos.
Units 1 to 4 – Learn proven models of excellence
NLPFUN801 - Experience NLP Fundamentals
This is the first unit of the Graduate Certificate in NLP and as such it has been designed to set the frame and teach you the foundations for the duration of the whole course.
This unit describes the knowledge and skills to build rapport and track basic human relations and communication and develop an awareness of the relationship between communication and thinking through state management with self and others. Frames are set with reference to systemic and ecological use of NLP. The skills developed in this unit are a pre-requisite to all subsequent practice.
At this stage your instructors will frame the New Code approach to NLP, emphasising the following fundamental elements:
- How you can establish collaboration between conscious and unconscious processes
- How you can build awareness of possible consequences of our choices in the short, medium and long term
- The need to respect that everyone has different beliefs and values.
You will be introduced to the powerful distinction between working with communication and thinking patterns as opposed to standard educational methods of using descriptive content or stories.
From the first day, you will explore what it means to get on well with other people as well as discover a series of principles that will help you improve the way you currently do it. You will also discover how our communication is working from different points of view, and how to leverage your communication utilising perspective.
You will learn observation and listening skills from different perspectives and experience thinking and expressing ourselves using different sensory descriptions in order to build flexibility of behaviour into your communication repertoire.
From here, you will go on to discover how to elicit useful states in self and others while keeping in mind the intention of your communication and how to keep our activity respectful of others’ choices.
Lastly, by the end of this foundational unit you will learn how to incorporate directed questions that will help you identify and map any outcomes you or your client want in the future.

NLPINF801 - Elicit information and generate solutions
This unit describes the knowledge and skills to track patterns in verbal and non-verbal behaviour to expose a new way of thinking, separating attention from story and keeping with pattern. This involves gathering high quality information from others, asking quality questions that lead to sensory based descriptions of human behaviour, gathering information about submodality distinctions that is subjective quality components of internal visualisation, audition and kinaesthesia. It is integrated using the Emergent Discovery Process to bring together the information gathering competencies.
During, unit two the focus of your learning will be on the following:
- You will learn to change state by choice, bring resources (states, knowledge, beliefs, ideas) into any context and thereby change your behaviour in just seconds.
- You will discover how knowing your intent for having or doing something gives you the power to open up choices for getting there and learn ways to do it by yourself and with others. Having clear intentions leads to great increases in flexibility of behaviour.
- The questions you need to ask when you need to clarify inaccurate thinking, specify over-generalised ideas and elicit more detail from overly vague statements – You can use this powerful language pattern to gather high quality information and direct the personal change processes that follow.
These include a New Code approach to change using submodalities, Chris Collingwood’s user friendly do it yourself approach to Grinder’s Six Step Reframe and Jules Collingwood’s state enhancing stalking exercise, along with recoded NLP change processes that now incorporate unconscious choice.

NLPINT801 Apply interventions for optimal self-management
This unit describes the knowledge and skills to gather information to track and direct attention in self and others to make respectful and ecological interventions and so facilitate well-formed outcomes and exercise choice.
In this unit, you will learn to communicate in depth with your own and others’ unconscious minds to harness their resources directly to enhance all aspects of observation, communication, choice and change.
This includes everything from creating congruent acceptance or rejection of opportunities to producing lasting attitudinal change, to finding lost objects as well as to identifying life goals and arranging states of concentration for specific work in specific contexts.
You will engage the unconscious in practical demonstrations and identify the different functions of conscious and unconscious process. We identify our current appreciation of time, including elapsed time, the passage of time and time management and discover additional ways of experiencing and using time to create effective time management and experiences that are more engaging.

NLPMOD801 Create metaphor and strategies to support change and development
This unit describes the knowledge and skills to use, compare and contrast detailed elicitation and metaphors to reveal thought patterns and to create metaphor from the patterns that have been elicited”. We learn to use a content free classification system for organising content into classes and sub-classes. This facilitates thinking about any complex issue and enables us to identify related from non-related topics. We engage unconscious resources to make present to future comparisons safe for change with internal representations and submodalities and place the resulting benefits in our personal histories. The intent is to develop facility with the creative process so that we can identify and utilise opportunities in life. From the accreditation document: “This unit describes the knowledge and skills to develop strategies for practical interventions to assist in the experience of the learning and change processes in conjunction with well-formed outcome language patterns, ecology and respect for individuals models of the world.
In this unit you will learn to recognise, utilise and change sequences of representations to optimise learning, decision-making, self motivation, creativity and other aspects of the thinking and emotion generating process.
You will also learn to create and deliver metaphor so you can embed useful thinking patterns inside engaging stories. This includes short, suitable metaphors to fit business and concrete environments as well as full-blown fantasy stories for informal occasions and interventions.

Units 5 to 8 – Create your own models of excellence
NLPADV801 Apply advanced processes of NLP to personal and organisational change
This unit describes the knowledge and skills you can use to develop and apply advanced change processes and information gathering techniques. you will, be invited to discover the NLP patterns underpinning these processes and to revisit the concept that NLP is a discipline and that its applications are products of the body of knowledge.
NLPMOD801 - Perform NLP modelling to capture expertise
This unit describes the knowledge and skills to observe and match a live model, observe a modelling session and learn how to incorporate specific tools for eliciting the unconscious elements of expertise in order to elicit and replicate the talent of an expert in the field of your choice.
NLPADV801 - Design advanced NLP patterns
This unit describes the knowledge and skills to track advanced patterns in people’s speech and behaviour and to distinguish between process and content so they can respond to the patterns with directed interventions in conversation. It enables you to deconstruct change processes to identify and discover the underlying patterns in them. You will gain practical skills in constructing and improvising working interventions using patterns in combination.
NLPOPT801 - Optimise personal and professional effectiveness
This unit describes the knowledge and skills to use, compare and contrast different emotional states and so provide them with a package of practical interventions to aid in mapping, upgrading and streamlining the personality. In this unit there will be opportunities to engage all the skills and processes offered in this program and to apply them in a variety of combinations to effect change.
